Big Springs is a truly unique, gated, restricted community consisting of three neighborhoods: The Village in the Hills (45 homes), The Village in the Glen (186 homes) which are both gated and The Village at Cactus Bluff (143 homes) which is both gated and guarded 24/7. Big Springs provides privacy and extra security by employing a roving patrol who works a varied schedule seven days a week. The patrol is available to assist residents when they are out of town by checking on their properties.
All three neighborhoods are restricted communities meaning that building restrictions and covenants are enforced to insure compliance, so that any contemplated changes will be in harmony with the community. Changes are approved if they help maintain or increase the aesthetic environment and property values.
The Big Springs entranceways are located on Evans Road just off Highway 281 North. All neighborhoods are within walking distant of the HEB / Canyon Ridge Shopping Center.
Hill and Glen homeowners gain access via remote controls purchased through the management company or HOA President and guests may contact residents through a keypad at the gate to gain access. Cactus Bluff residents also gain access via remote controls but their guests must register with the guard at the gate to enter the property. All residents may obtain a small Big Springs decal for their vehicles from the Cactus Bluff guard. The decals will help provide easier access to our common areas.
Homeowners and their guests enjoy a sparkling community pool, a sport court for basketball, tennis court, walking trails, clubhouse, and the Philip M. Mueller Park and Playground. These amenities are paid for and maintained by annual assessments of homeowners. Elementary and middle school students attend two of the North East Independent School District’s (NEISD) best schools: Canyon Ridge Elementary and Bush Middle School. The highly acclaimed Johnson High School serves our older students. Bush Middle School is within walking distance of Big Springs and bus service is provided to Canyon Rim and Johnson.
Commercial development has taken place over the past several years and within a 2.5 mile radius we enjoy superb shopping and dining facilities. In addition, Canyon Springs Golf Course is within 1.5 miles of Canyon Rim, and San Antonio’s Stone Oak Park with its extensive hiking trails is just down the road on Stone Oak Parkway. Roadwork is also either under construction or scheduled, in order to improve traffic throughout Stone Oak and along the U.S. 281 corridor.
All in all, Big Springs is a wonderful, welcoming place to live on San Antonio’s highly desirable far north side. We have fine schools, excellent roads, access to superb shopping and dining, and recreational facilities – but most of all, we have great neighbors and friends who call Big Springs home.
Reading the "Big Springs Welcome" letter is a good place to start to familiarize yourself with our neighborhood.
